OZ/OPIE second attempt!
After failing to run release 3.5.4.1-rc1 last week, I decided to try it out again with release 3.5.4.1-rc2 which was released a few days ago.
This time, installing and starting of OZ/OPIE is of no problem at all!
But oops....the first thing I did is to turn the brightness down, but accidently set to lowest value result in a total blank screen. Having trouble of turning the brightness back on, I decided to reflash it (and resize the root partition as well in order to load some more applications/fonts).
My first impression is that it is actually quite fast in response, however the overclock applet / LCD off applet are missing which is not as convenient as in Cacko. In addition, the keyboard
mapping is not well mapped as well, function keys/OK button are not working. I believe there will need to be some more work on the C3x00 series to fully support the keyboard layout.
There is no option to pick USB to be connected as mass storage device or TCP, and that connecting the cable to PC doesn't seems to have any effect. (i.e. USB is not working at all !!), which I might have to search from the net to see how to set it up.
What I like is the package management which makes it easy to install the package once you have networking working (Wifi in my case). However, installing application seems to take long sometime and it always broken halfway with a SIGKILL (maybe another one, I forgot) signal popped up. What might be better is to have a page to explain what the packages do.
By the way, after time sync with one of the selected server, the outcome seems to be some hours off. Maybe I didn't set it up properly!?
Ok, I will soon start to spend some more times in configurating it so that I will be suitable for my needs. What I really want to get to work (as a minimum start) are:
* PIM (and sync with my PC running Windows/Linux)
* Multimedia (playing mp3 as in musicplayer in cacko)
* Chinese support (at least display has to be working)
* Remote control (to control my Tele!)
* VNC Client
* USB mass storage
I guess what I should do first is to have a bit of reading in the Opie offical website http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/
